Women’s Singles

The Women’s Singles Championship qualifying day was on 10th January attracting a field of 12 players.

The games were hotly contested and unusually everyone needed to play in the third round as people needed the last game to qualify. In the end, six women qualified and took part in the Post Section play on 22nd February, as games had been deferred, till then, due to weather conditions.

The day was blustery and conditions were unpleasant to play in. The games were tight with Mary defeating Dianne Short, Jan Lilico defeating Elisabeth Glinkowska and Erica defeating Liz Galloway.

Eventually Erica Whittaker and Mary van der Velden were through to the final. The weather was slightly improved with the wind abating a little for the final. The game was fiercely contested with some great shots played by both women. After a tussle Erica won the game defeating Mary in a close and entertaining game.

Pictures coming, we hope …
