Event Types
There are several styles of bowls events, ranging from informal to serious competition.
Disc Draw or Roll-up
These are held on most Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons. Roll-ups are informal bowling sessions where you just turn up on the day, if you are free. People are arranged into teams of two or three where they play against another team for about 2 hours with a coffee break in the middle. The bar is open at the end for those who want to stay.
Roll-ups are nice way to socialise, enjoy a beautiful day outside and get some bowling practice in. All skill levels are welcome.
Galas
During summer galas occur every few weeks and usually cost $10 to enter, with prize money distributed to the top teams. They are still played in mufti like roll-ups and are great fun. They are team based and often played between about 10am-4pm with a lunch break in the middle. Great fun with a element of competitiveness!
During the winter season galas are played weekly, with an $8 entry, prize money and a light afternoon tea is often provided.
Club Championships
Every year multiple club championship events are held. There are categories for men, women and mixed. Some events are open to all players, other limited to junior players. Events can be singles, pairs and triples.
These are a terrific way to gain experience, have fun and maybe get your name on the honours board!
Regional Events
Some club players opt to play in various regional competitions throughout the year. We are in the Bowls Kapiti Coast regional and these events are played between Paekakariki and Waitarere Beach.
The events include Inter-club competitions, Pennants, CoC (Champion of Champions) and Horowhenua Fives.
Business House Bowls
Every year, 32 local business face off over 10 weeks during the summer to see who can win ultimately bragging rights!
Food, friends, beverages and bowling. A great way to spend a summer evening!
