The Men’s Singles Championship was started on January 25th with 7 players. Four players qualified and competed in fine conditions in post section play today on 6th February.

Adam Batty and Don Newton battled out the final in a very exciting and tense game. After two and half hours in very hot, sunny weather Adam Batty eventually won. As the marker commented, “anyone can win this game” after the scores were tied and not for the first time. After 24 ends the score was 20-17 to Adam but Don was not going to give up without a fight. He won the next 4 ends to take the score to 20 all. Adam managed to hold onto the shot in the 29th end to take out the game.

Congratulations to both players who gave the small appreciative crowd a wonderful game to watch, worthy of being on the television.

A comment from Les Galloway:

Today I was fortunate to mark the junior singles final between Adam Batty and Don Newton. It was an excellent game with both players playing very good bowls. The result was Adam 21 Don 20 so anyone’s game right to the last end, the standard being good enough to be the open men’s final. The unfortunate thing about the game was that there were no spectators until the end when members turned up for roll up. This was due to members not knowing the finals were on today. Grahame should have been asked to advertise by email that it was on. Congratulations to both players.
