We played the Four Formats Pairs gala, with each team playing one game of each of these variations:
- 3 bowl pairs over 10 ends
- Shanghai pairs over 10 ends
- 2 bowl pairs over 12 ends
- 2-4-2s over 8 ends
All games had a “Joker” that could be played by end team, once on an end of their choosing. Their score that end would be doubled.
The day started off beautifully warm and calm, and by around 1:30pm there was a strong and gusty easterly which made the game much more challenging to play.
All teams enjoyed the day and a lovely afternoon tea made by Jan Lilico and Alice Spicer. The top teams on the day were:
- 1st place: Ken Hayward and Arnold Tairoa with 4 wins, 22 ends and 74 points.
- 2nd place: Phil Stirrat and Arne Jansson with 3½ wins, 22 ends and 63 points.
- 3rd place: Don Newton and Clare Hack with 3 wins, 28 ends and 84 points.
