On a beautiful, windless autumn day the Year 1 & 2 players gathered to play a round robin tournament. There were 5 players involved and so that entailed having a bye.
In Round 1 – John vs Nick. Nick got off to a good start but John slowly but surely pegged him back. It was a tight finish with John taking the game 21-19. Fantastic bowls were played by both players.
Karen vs Ray – Karen played steady bowls throughout and overcame Ray who was struggling to adapt to the conditions.
Round 2 – Nick vs Karen and Don vs John. Consistent steady draw bowls saw both Nick and Don take out these games.
Round 3 – Don vs Ray – Ray got off to a great start and held Don at bay for some time but eventually Don won the game.
John vs Karen – Jon played steady bowls throughout the game and took a good lead. Karen though made a great comeback and showed the effectiveness of being able to draw well with the last bowl.
Round 4 – John vs Ray – after a mammoth effort John defeated Ray 21-18. It was nearly dark by the time they had finished and getting cold. Well done to both of them for staying the distance.
Nick vs Don – Don overcame Nick with steady great draw bowls.
A special thank you to the markers – Grahame Law, Margaret Wilson who both marked the first 3 games and to Elisabeth Glinkowska, Karen Muir and Noel McCutheon from Central, who completed the last game.
Congratulations to Don Newton who was the outright winner of the Year 1 & 2 singles.
