This event was carded for Saturday, 6th June but unfortunately the weather did not come to the party. It was wet and cold and play was transferred to Sunday when it became a knock out tournament. The weather was fine after initially being cloudy and then fog came down which fortunately had lifted by the time play began at 9.00am.
Games were 3 bowls triples over 12 ends. There were some wonderful games played with close results. Of course, some teams were eliminated despite playing good bowls and competing to the best of their ability. Four teams had a bye and they joined the other four teams in the quarter finals.
The quarterfinals provided some very close games when the final few ends became really important as either team could have taken out the game. Some tight heads being played with the bowls holding shot swapping from end to end.
The semi-finals were held on the Sunday too. Jan Lilico, Pat Brown and Phil Stirrat played against Michael Heather, Graham Williams and Chloe Eastham. Michael’s team got off to a good start and played steady and consistent bowls making in difficult for Jan’s team to catch up. Michael’s team eventually taking out the game 16-6.
In the other game Grahame Law, Graeme Mathie and Bella Law versed Les Galloway, Paul Gardner and Liz Galloway. Once again, the team that got off to the best start maintained their impetus and took out the game. Congratulations to Les’s teams who won 14-4.
The final was played on Thursday 10th on a very cold, frosty morning. It was an absorbing game and could have gone either way as the scores remained close throughout. The 4th, 6th and 10th ends were all tied so it came down to the last two ends. Michael Heather’s team kept their cool and played great bowls to take out both ends. The final score was 16-11.
Congratulations to both teams on a wonderful game.
