The King’s Birthday Weekend two-day tournament was held May 30th and 31st, sponsored again by our Patron and Life Member Margaret Griffin.
We had 26 teams of Mixed Pairs participating this year. On the first day 14 teams played in Pool 1, and 12 teams in Pool 2, with each team playing 4 games of 10 ends. Wins, ends and differentials contributed to the ranking.
On the second day the top 14 teams across both pools formed Group A, and the bottom 12 teams formed Group B. The format played was the same as the day before and the teams with the most wins, ends and differentials coming out on top. Two games of ten ends were played in the morning and two of eight ends in the afternoon.
Once again the weather was excellent for bowling, not being too hot and only a light wind most of the time.
The overall winners in the top Group A were:
- 1st: Adam Batty and Elizabeth Glinkowska
- 2nd: Erica Whittaker and Nick Bailey
- 3rd: Colin and Ann Leslie
- 4th: Roger Athersuch and Pat Brown
- 5th: Don Newton and Clare Hack
The top 4 teams in the smaller Group B were:
- 1st: Sandy Patterson and Lee Jeremy
- 2nd: Brett Connell and Diane Short
- 3rd: Mary Hughes and Kevin Vagg
- 4th: Brian Thompson and Violet Holmes
The lucky non-winning team today was Grahame and Bella Law.
A lovely afternoon tea was provided by Mary van der Velden and help from Linda Moy and others in the kitchen.
